New product uses AI to validate expected shipment charges in real-time, then tie-out audit actions downstream
SEATTLE, August 26, 2026 — Shipium, the industry’s first promise-to-payment shipping platform, today announced Always-On Audit, a platform-native financial product that validates carrier charges against expected rates and contracts in real-time, and then automates integrated auditing workflows for complete financial controllership.
Carrier billing complexity has accelerated as surcharge and accessorial structures have grown. Historical solutions, such as manual AP reconciliation or outsourced firms, all operate downstream of the shipment, working backward from invoices that arrive weeks after goods have shipped, leading to several challenges for shippers, including lost disputes and slow optimization cycles.
Always-On Audit changes that. Because Shipium generates the rate and selects the carrier at execution, the expected cost of each shipment already exists as a platform record. Validation runs against that record rather than reconstructing it from the invoice, and findings feed back to the carrier selection rules and contract data that produced them.
"Customers can lay the financial controllership plane over the operations plane for the first time ever," said Penny Allen, SVP AI, Product & Engineering at Shipium.
The breakthrough capability stems from Shipium’s creation of a shipment ledger, the only end-to-end record of a shipment that collects and organizes all data and decisions along the lifecycle of a shipment. Customers can take on audit puzzles in real-time in ways they were never able to do before.
"Shipium has always been the system of record for what shipped. Always-On Audit now also makes it the system of record for what that shipment should have cost. That is the same platform answering a question Finance has never been able to ask of Operations," said Jason Murray, CEO and Co-founder of Shipium.
The launch of Always-On Audit ushers in expanded use of shipping AI technology on the platform. Customers have access to an increasing number of agents that will help automate the type of manual work found in the audit industry that is expensive, prone to error, and lacks feedback loops. Shipium’s agentic innovations in this space will help customers reduce errors and save money in ways not possible before AI.
“We at Shipium have always taken a pragmatic approach to AI because of the critical nature of supply chain technology in the operations of our customers. AI needs to be reliable and deliver value to customers to justify bringing it to market. The audit industry is the perfect for scaled agentic workflows that will generate real outcomes our customers will love,” said Mr. Murray.
"Shipium already knows what every shipment is supposed to cost because it makes the rating and routing decision in the first place, which means the audit runs continuously against that intent rather than arriving months later as a credit request," said Brandon Friez, SVP Global Logistics and Supply Chain Intelligence at American Eagle Outfitters.
