At this year's Blue Yonder ICON conference, the annual event where customers and partners get together, as a leading Blue Yonder shipping partner Shipium was awarded a prestigious honor: ISV Partner of the Year.

The award points to one of the defining qualities of Shipium: our ability to take what has been a legacy and ignored category (parcel shipping), and turn into one of the biggest strategic value drivers for a business.

The reason is pretty simple. In modern commerce business models, shipping typically impacts both the top and bottom lines.

Top Line Growth — After price, shipping tends to be the second biggest growth lever. Customers, from retail to 3PLs to healthcare to distributors and more, want their orders fast, free, and on-time. Competing for customers now requires a mature shipping strategy.

Bottom Line Cost — Shipping tends to be the highest operating expense on the P&L. Parcel shipping has historically been a set-it-and-forget-it piece of logistics, but now it has become one of the most urgent areas to seek innovation to help reduce rising costs.

For Blue Yonder customers, Shipium partners to identify end-to-end shipping workflows that can benefit from our AI + ML library to help optimize the shipping performance within their existing Blue Yonder systems.

A great example is the Make a Promise You Can Keep, Then Keep the Promise that You Made workflow across Blue Yonder Commits and Blue Yonder WM.

With Commits as the authority on inventory position, Blue Yonder customers pair Shipium's Dynamic Time-in-Transit values, powered by real-time Machine Learning, to get the most accurate picture of delivery times across a network. You can test how those values work with this interactive demo. With our fully loaded rates model available via APIs as well, Blue Yonder customers are giving more accurate speed and cost promises to customers upstream.

Closing the loop with Blue Yonder WM relies on the same ML models around speed, cost, and accuracy to ensure that the carrier selection process at the moment of order fulfillment meets the promise given to customers at the cheapest cost.

Fitting the Blue Yonder Vision of the Future

The keynote delivered at ICON spotlighted four key themes.

  1. End-to-End Workflows
  2. Power of AI
  3. Leveraging the Network
  4. Agentic Advantage

Another reason Shipium adds strategic value is how we enable all four themes.

End-to-End Workflows

The Make/Keep workflow above is a great example, but there are many more.

For example, Blue Yonder customers in the LSP/3PL industry can leverage our workflow of simulating shipping outcomes upstream to clients, deploying those configurations instantaneously with a centralized web console, and tie the results out with an integrated billing management solution.

This workflow connects Commercial - Operations - Technology - Finance teams in a way Blue Yonder customers have never seen before. You can learn more about the workflow here.

Power of AI

Shipium has one of the strongest data science teams in the logistics industry. As of now, the platform has 20 live ML models being used by customers every day.

The most famous example is our Dynamic TNT model. We accurately predict delivery dates from any origin to destination in real time. The model is used for both projecting pre-purchase EDDs and during carrier selection to estimate which options can hit a promise.

But there are other models adding incredible value, too. One example is Dynamic Limits. Often, enterprise customers will have a discount incentive with a large carrier, for example shipping 80% of volume with UPS or FedEx. The question is "which 80% is the right 80%?" Solving that puzzle is normally a static rule. But our ML model projects probable future shipments to determine which is the most optimal shipment to reserve for the discount threshold vs move to a full rate shop.

Blue Yonder customers using Shipium are discovering the power of AI and ML under the hood every day whether they realize it or not.

Leveraging the Network

While there are a lot of networks within the Blue Yonder ecosystem, the revolution Shipium brings to a parcel network is special.

In order to achieve the areas of strategic value discussed, flexibility is the most important property of parcel technology. The shipping tech within the Blue Yonder ecosystem must be able to change and react quickly, versus requiring several months for the smallest of changes.

Shipium's pre-integrated carrier network allows Blue Yonder customers to turn on (or off) a carrier in hours, not months. Any changes, like updating a rule or modifying surcharges, can be done in minutes and propogated across the entire network.

Shipium helps bring parcel up to the modern equivalent of Blue Yonder's other networks, and provides an opportunity for leverage like never before.

Agentic Advantage

When we think about agents, we think about autonomous AI assessing a situation, then making and propagating a decision.

As Blue Yonder begins to provide agentic solutions to customers, Shipium's platform provides better data and input for those agents to make the right decision.

For example, Blue Yonder Commits has a major impact on the shopping experience upstream.

Now, Commits can use our speed and cost models to understand probable inventory drain issues that could impact the delivery performance of future orders and automatically advise rebalancing of inventory.

Blue Yonder agents will be more powerful when incorporating customer shipping data under the hood.
